The Ngee Ann polytechnic (NP) sports hall was filled with lots of enthusiastic support and loud cheers as the teams battled out for title of inaugural champions in the POLITE Tchoukball championship yesterday.
The Women’s team from Republic Polytechnic (RP) finished the tournament with an impressive 100% winning record en route to clinching the title of Women’s Champions.
The team’s impressive run included a 32-20 win over fellow title favourites Singapore Polytechnic (SP), inflicting the only loss in the tournament for the eventual runners-up.
Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) completed the top-three positions after notching three wins and two losses in their five games.
The Men’s division was a very tight affair with Nanyang, Republic and Temasek Polytechnics (TP) all ending the tournament with seven points. With points levelled, the final standings had to be decided with consideration given to the team with a better head-to-head result.
NYP was declared as Men’s division champions while RP took second spot and TP finished third. RP was buoyant with their second place finish as a hard-fought 47-43 victory over TP had helped them emerge as runners-up, above the latter
