The Lion City will host its first ever inter-city rivalry race in October with the launch of the Nike City 10K Singapore, a unique celebration of sport that connects and inspires young runners here to lace up against runners in neighbouring city Kuala Lumpur for a good cause.

Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are two out of the 22 cities around the world that will be hosting the newly introduced Nike City 10K this year. In addition to the physical races in both cities, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur will be challenging each other in a virtual race, where runners in each city can clock mileage for their City from now till 31st Oct. All they need is a Nike+ SportBand to sync their mileage from their Nike+ running shoes on Nikeplus.com.sg. The Nike City 10K flags off in Kuala Lumpur on 10th October, and 24th October for Singapore. Due to the overwhelming registration response for the Nike Human Race in Singapore for the last two years, this year’s Nike City 10K Singapore will expand its capacity from 10,000 to 12,000 runners.

The city with the most kilometres by the end of October will win a USD30,000 donation from Nike to their respective charities. Runners in Singapore will raise funds for the Singapore Children’s Society, while runners in Kuala Lumpur will run to earn a donation for Hope Worldwide Kuala Lumpur.

Participants can look forward to enjoying a special running experience, with vibrant performances positioned in 4 entertainment and motivational zones along the race route to spur on and energize the runners.

Registration for the Nike City 10K opens today, as runners can sign up for either the Open category (Men / Women) or Under 25 category (Men / Women). Young runners can also sign up for the School category, which is open to students from secondary schools, junior colleges, polytechnics and universities. The registration fee of $25 (for runners 24 years and below) or $35 (for runners 25 years and above) before GST includes a Nike City 10K race t-shirt with a pre-printed number bib and a finisher’s award for all participants who complete the race.

Runners who sign up for the Nike City 10K can now enjoy 50% off the purchase of a Nike+ SportBand, which enables them to take part in the SG vs. KL online challenge on Nikeplus.com.sg. Nike+ SportBand is your link to the world’s largest running club with almost 2 million members globally, where you can log and review runs, get training advice, challenge friends and more.

Of course, to ensure your mileage gets clocked, make sure you’ve got a pair of Nike+ running shoes on. An example is our latest contribution : Nike’s LunarGlide+2 with the Lunarlon cushioning system, constantly adapts to each runner’s stride to deliver plush cushioning and support, all in a lightweight package.

Dynamic Support adjusts for every runner, for every phase of the run, while being Nike+ ready means that you’ll be able to hook to a Nike SportBand to monitor and compare all your run performances. A nearly-stitch-free upper features extended panels of Flywire and a notched inner-sleeve construction for internal comfort, reduced irritation, and ultr-light, ultra-strong support.
