Despite delay to professional demonstration due to the heavy downpour, fans of BMX pro-rider Aaron Ross along with pro skaters Worapoj Boonnim and Soichiro Kanashima stayed back at the waiting area to take their autographs and anticipate for their idol’s demonstrations.
Start of the clinics were greeted with cheers, with the loudest applause given to these athletes’ stunts. Aaron Ross, reputed for his powerful moves and his bicycle’s bright orange rims, did not disappoint with his big 7200 spins.
The affable Texan, who performed at about 4:30pm – which is about 5am for him back in US, said, “I was surprised to see the crowd here at the G-Shock Mettle Games. Looking at the BMX participants’ performance in Singapore, their standards are pretty good and I am sure they will do well if they practise.”
Over at SKI360 where the cable wakeboard competitions are taking place, the atmosphere is intense even for the world’s number 1 and 3 female cable rider Angelika Schreiber (AUS) and Denise de Haan (NED).
At the preliminary round for cable wakeboard for professionals, defending champion Denise is ecstatic to beat Angelika by a close margin. “I thought I will lose to her as her tricks are very good. Her 9000 spin is very solid too.”
She added, “it is just awesome that top athletes can get together and compete in an event such as the G-Shock Mettle Games.”
Sasha Christian, Singapore’s gold medalist for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and champion for the G-Shock Mettle Games’ wakeboard segment, also participated in the cable wakeboard competition. She managed to come in fifth despite her first attempt at this sport’s competition.
On the male cable wakeboard front, Singapore’s SEA Games bronze medalist Matthew Christian came in third with 78.00 points. British Declan Clifford looked set on having a winning streak after coming in tops for his group’s preliminaries for pro cable wakeboard, in a series of wins from cable competitions around the world.
However, he will be in for a tough time for the finals tomorrow with James Windsor as competitor. The Australian cable rider also came in first for his group, with an astounding score of 90.00.
