Max, a die-hard Blues fan, has been named as the winner of the Barclays Fan of Hong Kong competition that set out to find the most passionate Barclays Premier League football fan in the territory.

The competition received hundreds of entries from fans across Hong Kong as they vied to prove their credentials as the most passionate fan and win VIP tickets for the Barclays Asia Trophy next week, as well as a trip of a lifetime to see a Barclays Premier League match in the UK.

Max won over the judges with his video entry – a mixture of animation and still photos demonstrating his love for Chelsea and determination to be named Barclays Fan of Hong Kong.

A series of images show him celebrating a Chelsea win with friends, his fantastic collection of club memorabilia and posing with stars Frank Lampard and John Terry.

He also suggested it was his fate to win after revealing that he has the same birthday as Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly, who as part of Max’s prize will escort him around the Barclays Premier League Trophy Tour that opens on 28th July at Ocean Terminal, Kowloon.

A panel of judges including Marcel Desailly, broadcaster John Dykes and Robert Morrice, Chairman and CEO of Barclays Asia, also chose five runners-up who will be sent signed Barclays Premier League merchandise. They are Alan Cheung (Liverpool fan), Lam Kin Man (Liverpool fan), Tang Chung Yin (Arsenal fan), Victor Lui (Chelsea fan) and Yau Yuk Ming (Liverpool fan).

Desailly said: “It’s fantastic that so many fans entered the Barclays Fan of Hong Kong competition. There’s so much support for the Barclays Premier League in Hong Kong and you can certainly see that in all of the entries, but Max’s entry really stood out. We loved the creativity of his video and the passion that he so obviously has for Chelsea.”

Barclays has sponsored the Barclays Premier League since 2001. It is broadcast in over 200 territories worldwide, reaching an estimated 650 million homes.
