  • SIM 30th Singapore Open Asian Windsurfing Update: Day 3

    Singapore, 15 January 2011 – The 3rd day of the SIM 30th Singapore Open Asian Windsurfing Championships marked the start of races for 3 other classes, Formula, Slalom and Raceboard. The 3 other classes saw a combined total of 50 over competitors taking part. The SIM Windsurfing Championships also got underway as tertiary students from around the island converged to take part.

    The 3rd day started off with 8-12 knots of winds blowing in the North East direction.

    In the RS:X category, the first race (5th race of the day) was filled with excitement and drama, as constant wind shifts saw sailors trade pole position over the course of the race. A strong showing by Chan King Yin saw him overtake Ek for the 1st position at the end of the day. 5 points separate the top 5 positions in this extremely competitive class. A strong showing by Audrey Yong of Singapore, saw her secure 2nd place in the RS:X Youth Girl at the end of Day 3.

    The light wind conditions yesterday and today was working to the advantage of Navin Singsart as he continued his good run by coming in 1st for the 4th to 7th race in the IMCO.

    The formula sailors were made to work hard, as the light wind conditions meant that they had to pump to get planning. Meng from Singapore came in 3rd at the end of the day.

    The SIM Windsurfing Championships saw participants from the local universities and MOE schools run 3 races today. Pick of the lot was Teresa who beat many older competitors to come out top in the 6.2M Open.
