It wasn’t a goal fest but the Malaysians showed their steel beating the Chinese 3-nil in the first match of today’s Asia Under 18 Boys Hockey Tournament in Sengkang today.
Malaysia opened accounts with Mohd Nor Aqmal Abdul Gaffar’s short corner in the sixth minute.
The Chinese came back in the second half determined to throw the Malaysians off momentum.
But the blazing afternoon sun took its toll on both teams.
Our northern neighbours began to stumble, almost conceding a point when the goalkeeper came off his line. The Chinese tried to capitalize but were un-coordinated.
Malaysia struggled to *‘sound the board’ and their efforts paid off when Muhamad Hafiz Zainol put his team 2-nil up. Muhammad Haziq Samsul sealed China’s fate with another goal when he gave the Malaysians a comfortable start to this Asian tournament.
